Using keyboard shortcuts is a great way to save time as many WordPress users can spend up to hundreds of hours per month using Mozilla Firefox to manage our WordPress powered blogs.

Keyboard shortcuts are a great way to improve our productivity and time management when managing our blogs. How many of us constantly jump or move your hand from keyboard to mouse and back again? It’s fine if you are doing a single task however what if you are doing a repetitive task like surfing the web, filling out forms, typing in new website URL’s into the address bar. You can see my point, you are maybe spending 1/4 of your time jumping from keyboard to mouse and back again.

What if you knew just a few of the many available Firefox keyboard shortcuts that are available. This could really help you to manage your time better and give more time for the greater things in like that you enjoy, like working with your WordPress blog ;)

In this article I am going to outline a few of the available Firefox keyboard shortcuts that are available to you.

Firefox Keyboard Shortcuts

Address Bar Keyboard Shortcuts

ctrl + L Jump to or give focus to the address bar
ctrl + enter Completes a .com address. Adds the http:// prefix and .com suffix to the URL
shift + enter Completes a .net address. Adds the http:// prefix and .net suffix to the URL
ctrl + shift + enter Completes a .org address. Adds the http:// prefix and .org suffix to the URL

Bookmarks

ctrl + b Opens the Bookmark panel
ctrl + d Bookmarks the current page

Search Bar

ctrl + k Give focus to the search bar
alt + up arrow/down arrow Toggle available search engines

Tabs

ctrl + t Opens a new tab
ctrl + tab Toggle through all open tabs
ctrl + shift + tab Navigate to the previous browser tab
ctrl + keyboard numbers 1-9 Jump to and give focus to that number open tab

Windows

ctrl + N Opens a new browser window
ctrl + W If no tabs are open, closes the browser window
ctrl + keyboard numbers 1-9 Jump to and give focus that number open tab

Misc

ctrl + shift + i Toggle the webpage inspector
ctrl + shift + j Opens the java inspector panel
ctrl + o Opens a local file
ctrl + h Opens the history dialogue box
ctrl + j Opens and closes the download dialogue window
ctrl + u Display the source code of the current page
alt + home Navigate to your homepage
ctrl + enter When within a web page and click on link, link is opened in background tab
shift + ctrl + enter When within a web page and click on link, link is opened in foreground tab
f5 Reload current page
ctrl + f5 Reload current page clearing previous cache
ctrl + a Select all current text, useful when copying and pasting
ctrl + c Copy selected text
ctrl + x Cut selected text
ctrl + v Paste selected text
ctrl + p Open print dialogue box
ctrl + shift + delete Opens “Clear private data” dialogue box
